What drives the guy that drives the machine and grinders woolloongabba? we threw coffee specialist dale pollard some quick fire questions to find out.
1. Where did your passion for coffee begin?
I’m a confessed coffee nerd; I love it. It was long before I started working at Woolloongabba as a barista, but then I joined Grinders and learnt to make a great coffee, with beautifully roasted blends. From there, I found my passion and am thrilled I can make a career of it.
2. What makes a great coffee?
A lot of small parts make the sum of a great coffee. The blend, how it is roasted, getting the ground right, water temperature and the pour. And that’s all before you add the milk and create the style of coffee. The presentation also matters, don’t underestimate it.
3. What is the best part of your job?
Now, as one of Grinders Coffee specialists, I have the opportunity to share my knowledge and skills with others. Getting to meet so many people from different cafes that stock Grinders keeps me motivated every day. It’s awesome.
4. What is your favourite Grinders Coffee blend?
Definitely Foundation. It is a real crowd pleaser, works well with milk and is a delicious, well-balanced coffee. The Foundation blend just picked up a Silver and Bronze medal at the Australian International Coffee Awards, held in Melbourne in April this year.
5. What’s your favourite way to use coffee, beyond the traditional?
I am an absolute fan of the affogato. A great big scoop of vanilla bean ice cream served with a shot of espresso. It’s an indulgent after dinner treat, and with a shot of liqueur adds that little something special.
