All things Coffee with Head Barista Shelley from Ben’s Bakehouse

Nestled on the edge of Knuckey Street, a short stroll from Darwin’s heart, Ben’s Bakehouse is a go-to breakfast and lunch spot. Known for years for its delectable baked goods, baguettes, and hot meals, quality remains unwavering. From sandwiches to pastries, doughnuts, and handcrafted pies, the daily menu promises a handmade feast. A full menu caters to heartier appetites, drawing office workers and tradies to our quiet café on the Darwin lunch circuit. Ben’s Bakehouse ends the age-old lunch debate, offering something for every palate. Our covered outdoor seating lets you dine al fresco, soaking in the city’s vibes.

Tell us a little about yourself?

As a long-term Territorian, I have worked in many different venues. From pubs to cafes. I enjoy working with people and making them smile which is why I love working in hospitality.

Tell us, how do you drink your coffee?

Almond latte is my daily go to.

What are your tips to make better coffee?

Most importantly, ALWAYS listen to the customer’s feedback. Did you note the capital letters.

What new trends or changes have you seen coming from your customers or the industry?

People swaying toward alternative milk – there are so many options to choose from now.

Can you tell us about your relationship with Grinder’s Coffee?

Since partnering with Grinders our sales doubled. So, you can say we have a good relationship. We use Source blend which is a smooth, creamy, organic blend that’s also rainforest alliance certified.

What makes Nino’s a great place to work?

Easy! It’s the people I work with. We are like family!

What’s your favourite menu item from your cafe?

Do I have to choose just one? My favourite sweets are the Chocolate brownie and savouries are the Curry Pie and Vegemite Scroll.
